Pigeon Publishing is an online magazine dedicated to literature, art, and politics. When we launched this project in January 2024, our goal was to create a welcoming space for sharing and enjoying art while actively supporting artists.
Throughout 2024, we worked to publish a new piece each week, made new friends, and hosted several reading events. Coming together as a community to listen to and discuss art has become one of the most rewarding aspects of this journey.
Who we are
We strive to provide a platform for diverse authors, most of whom are based in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. In 2025, we’d love to see more submissions from outside this region and publish in English as well.
Currently based in Heidelberg, we’ve had the pleasure of connecting with representatives from other UNESCO Cities of Literature and are eager to see these relationships grow and thrive.

What we do
Send Us Your Texts & Art
We're excited that you'd like to contribute to our magazine! Here's a brief overview of what we're looking for.
Genres/Art Forms: We're open to all kinds of art that can be published online: visual arts (photos or scans), music, and of course, literature (poetry, prose, essays).
Themes/Form: We are a magazine focused on processing the cultural present in hopes of discovering perspectives for the future. We believe that late-capitalist society often resurrects the past because it cannot imagine a future—and we aim to challenge that. For this reason, we prefer texts that avoid nostalgia, such as using outdated language or recreating Goethe (unless it serves a deliberate literary purpose). To us, literature is not a zombie but a medium for critical or hopeful perspectives, engaging with contemporary language.
Take a look at our other contributions to see if we might be a good fit!
When it comes to poetry, we lean towards progressive/experimental styles rather than classical rhyming schemes. Feel free to send us a selection of poems.
Essays can focus on topics like socio-political issues or art.
For prose, please submit relatively short texts or excerpts from longer works that align with our themes.
Visual arts submissions should include high-resolution images, and if applicable, titles and short texts about the works (we reserve the right to edit accompanying texts).
Please also include a short bio (check out our current bios for inspiration on style and length).
If you prefer to remain anonymous or use a pseudonym, that’s no problem—we’re happy to publish using the Pigeon Publishing profile or use a placeholder image.
Your copyright remains with you. By submitting your work, you simply give us permission to publish it on our site and create an Instagram post about it.
Please send your texts as a Word document (and as a PDF if you have specific formatting preferences).
And because it’s important to emphasize this: we actively encourage submissions from authors and artists with intersectional perspectives.
